are MP3 excerpts of acoustic recording projects
I have worked on in the past
My good friend Marc Beaudin is a songwriter, musician and very fine
guitar player. A little while back he gave me a call wanting to do an
impromptu recording session with a trio of prominent Edmonton musicians
he had been working with. Marc wanted to reproduce the classic sound
and energy of jazz recordings from the 1960s, so we put the ensemble
in a room together, and did the recording in one take.
Brighouse & Rastrick Band.
As an audio engineer its truly exciting when I get the opportunity
to record great musicians in a great venue. In the spring of 2005 The
Brighouse & Rastrick Band, a top competition band from England,
came to Edmonton to do a performance at the Winspear Centre for Music.
I recorded the concert for a live CD that is planned for release in
Canada and Britain in late 2005.
I really enjoy working with musicians who think outside the box
and explore new musical ground. When Edmonton trombone player Ryan Purchase
was looking to start an ensemble he realised the local Klesmer community
was under-serviced. Gathering a cross section of Edmonton musicians
from the classical, jazz and rock communities he formed Tennessee Steinmetz
to perform what he described to me as fusion klesmer.
